Simple Monday

Know, first, who you are; and then adorn yourself accordingly- Epictetus

For today I know that simple elegance fits me best. Tomorrow I will be someone totally differently.
That's for certain.

Weekend Pleasure

Lush Bubble Bars Looking Like Macaroons- Rose Jam/ Green Bubbleroon/ Yuzu&Cocoa
Box Of Mixed Macaroons From Oberlaa

Macaroons are always an uplifting treat for me! Either the real sweet ones with the exquisite taste or be it in the bathtub with gorgeous smelling bath bars looking like macaroons. And at times when I need to keep the world outside & a hug of a soft bubble cloud I take both of them! Maybe I will stay in the tub all weekend long. It's nice to have a few carefree days with the sun shining and nothing to do but to enjoy myself.

H&M X MARNI

Only 16 days left until the Marni for H&M Collection hits the stores March 8! Did you already pick out your favourites? I think Consuelo Castiglioni did a pretty good job designing these clothes for H&M- you can feel her eclectic elegance in every piece. A lot of silk, bold prints and classic Marni silhouettes!
Normally I don't go crazy about these collaborations but for this one I will be at the next H&M shop 10 am sharp!

Staying in

Finally the ice cold days with -10° Celsius- which we had for the last two weeks- are over and after feeling glad not getting sick this winter I feel a small cold sneaking up on me. So I decided instead of running errands this morning I'll stay at home and cuddle up in bed or on the couch. Next to me: A cup of tea & the latest magazines.

Photo A Day #16 Something new

We just bought two of this lamps for our nightstands last week because we were still using the old lamps from our writing desks. Although we are in our flat for a year now due to our lack of spare time to go and shop for furniture or even accessories we just have a very basic furnishing. But changing that is a main goal for this year! And look how well we did: Two lamps for the nightstands and the month of february isn't over yet! Motivation galore!

Sunday Chocolate

I'm enjoying this afternoon to the fullest with a cup of tea and a few slices of Wiener Schichten. It's a viennese speciality with layers of dark and light nougat. Sooo good. I mostly buy it at a little candy shop in which everything looks like from the 1900's. Old dark wooden furniture, mountains of different kinds of chocolate behind glas and oh, that sweet smell. Delicious! I also found the same kind of candy my grandma used to give me when I was little after thinking it didn't exist anymore in exactly that shop. Also I think the owner must be around 80. It's a very charming place.

Photo A Day #7 (A very vintage) Button

A fibula with the bow missing.

This was on a dig in Jordan 2009. I was cleaning out an earth oven which is at its simplest a pit in the ground used to trap heat to bake and cook. I had to take out the old ash bit by bit  & being careful not to miss any remains mixed with the ash like grain, charcoal or bones. This work is one of the dirtiest you can imagine. Thousand of years old ash everywhere! In your face, your cloth, your hair. Suddenly there was something unusual in the soft fine filling of the oven. Something hard and not likely to find in an earth oven. I dug a little bit deeper and under layers of ash I found this fibula! Some human being- death for thousand of years now- must have dropped it in an inattentive moment  or hid it in the cold ash for whatever reason. Yes, it was a glorious day!

My Favourite Things

Shoes: Boss (very old) - Bag: Boss (old)

These two wonderful items belong to me for a very long time now. It must be 7 years ago since I bought the shoes and quick thereafter my mum bought me the bag which I was eyeing for a few months back then. Both are exquisitely crafted and the leather is truly soft. It's not often that I tried on a pair of shoes and it fitted perfectly and felt faultless. I can walk around for hours wearing this heels and be totally comfortable. The bag was also a good pick. It fits almost every outfit and has the right size to take in all of my essentials when going out, going shopping or to a museum. Especially to the museum- because it's small enough not to have to hand it over to the cloakroom attendant. Something I really don't like.

PHOTO A DAY #2 Words

This is my post for the #FebPhotoADay Challenge.
Actually you are just allowed one photo a day but I am making a little exception and post 2 photos today.

Words and especially the written word had and will have a big influence on me and my life, the words who shaped me and partly made who I am were mostly found in books.

February Photo A Day

I just saw on one of my favourite blogs Mangoblüte that there is a photo a day challenge by Fat Mum Slim and although I already missed the first day I'm ecxited to be part of the challenge! I think it's a really cool idea! So just join too!

The rules are as follows:

1. Use the list above as inspiration and take a photo everyday. For example for number one on the list, 'your view today' you'd take a shot of whatever it is that you can see today. This would be a wider shot of your office space, where you went for a walk, or whatever it is that you can see!

2. Share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, your blog or where ever it is you want to share. If you're sharing on Instagram or Twitter use the hashtag #FEBphotoaday so everyone can find them. There's a great community around the photo sharing, so do share!

3. Check out everyone else's pictures. I do it before I go to bed each night and it's so fun to see how different everyone's photos are. There are people from every corner of the world playing.

I think I will post my daily photos mostly in the evening!

Spondeo!

Last week a very dear friend of mine got her Magistra diploma very solemly in the Main Ceremonial Chamber at the University of Vienna. I met her years ago in a seminar attended by just 3 ppl which was called "Konstruktion des Männlichen und des Weiblichen in frühen altorientalischen Texten". Thinking about it now maybe the name of the class really was the reason why we were so few...  But before I'm getting all sentimental- that's what I wore:

Little funny detail inside the "Wise Skirt"-yeah, that's the name of the skirt! Fits the occasion perfectly!

That's a bad picture.... the colour of the skirt is actually a deep navy blue.
